What is OK DX Group?
Founded in 2004, the Oscar Kilo International DX Group has become notorious through its tireless defense of members' interests, which is, for most of the times, coincidental with those of all users of the 11 meter band. Seeking mainly to educate and assist DX fans, we have followed a generally accepted system for assigning call-signs, which is made up from DXCC Countries and unique prefixes, each country has a prefix designator, it's corresponding Continent, WAZ and ITU prefixes, along with its' real time compared to that of the standard UTC time in Greenwich, England . Oscar Kilo Group runs a mailing list that is a very important tool for members to share opinions and receive news from the clubs "Magic Team". To subscribe our mailing list you must first be a member of OK DX, once this is accomplished then a host of membership benefits come your way. The Magic Team is continually monitoring our memberships needs, as well as sponsoring annual events. Our Ruling Committee for DX Activity (The "Magic Team") oversees all matters connected with this practice; contests, awards, expeditions etc.
What is 11 Meter Radio?
It is a hobby that, essentially, consists in using electricity, electronic and electronic knowledge and techniques to allow contacts between people separated by a distance that makes it impossible or difficult the use of conventional communication means, such as voice. Beyond the possibility of a great development of technical and scientific knowledge, it enhances the contact (i.e... exchange of ideas) between people who do not know each other, it helps conviviality, fighting shyness and isolation. Citizens Band Radio was were 11 meter radio services began. This is still a form of radioamateur service except that the operator is limited to one only band: 11 meters (27 MHz). It is a service accessible to anyone, in some countries by paying a periodical fee, without any requirement to demonstrate technical knowledge. It is frequently considered a radioamateur school, allowing those interested, to learn, test and get acquainted with methods used in the amateur radio service, using them to get the same results. OK DX, its' members and Magic Team all suggest that you should become familiar with your local policies or laws concerning this mode of RF generation. We encourage you to respect your local or national laws as they pertain to this radio service so as to avoid any unnecessary or undiserable problems.
How does this all work?
Due to the characteristics inherent of the used frequency, it is possible the communication over great distances within our planet. The science of Radio wave propagation is closely monitored by many countries and organizations for both scientific and hobby related purposes. Electromagnetic radiation from numerous sources have an effect on the earth's ionosphere, which under the right circumstances can cause layers in the earth's atmosphere become ionized resulting in Radio Waves reflecting of that layer rather than penetrating it to then be broadcast to the far reaches of the universe. When reflected, a favorable condition occurs that results in Radio Operators to speak to others several hundred to thousands of miles away when under normal conditions, this could not be possible.
